2. Work Selection

Selecting work for the Mid Term show.

The whole class met in the main hall of the building. We were expected to bring a selection of work that we had completed on the course so far.

Firstly we started to arrange work in groups of what ‘space’ they needed; did it need to be hung on a wall or would it sit on a plinth or is it entirely free standing? This helped me with the selection process as my work seemed it was very much in the “I’m still learning” stage of the course and I felt a bit of a fraud exhibiting my work. What I noticed is that we all felt a bit like that so working together in a team really helped.

Once we put our work together on tables so we could look at the collection in it’s entirety, it started to feel a bit more like ‘art’. We then arranged groups of work into sculpture, prints, photographs etc. This was helpful for me to start to imagine what should go where on the walls and what might work well together in a section. Laying our plaster sculpture on the floor and blu-tacking prints etc to the wall made it take further shape.

I chose to display two photographs of my assemblage Art or Shit”, a plaster sculpture and a collage of a teacup made from a paper marbling class.
