We learnt about CMKY and how these ‘modern’ colours are used in printing. We used them to try to mix colours that would allow us to paint colours that were more ‘true’ to some images than the RGB palette allowed us. We also started to learn about additive colours, Red, Blue and Green and how they are obtained through emitting light and the subtractive colours, CMKY and how they subtract light. I will continue to read about this and try and understand more as it is not only an entirely new concept for me but one I find challenging although I do understand the theory of the most basic principles of this.
I tried to paint the gold top of a Nescafe jar which I was really pleased with. I have not painted very much at all and I have never mixed colours prior to starting this course so I was happy with the result. I can see how having the full palette of colours: RGB and CMKY will allow me to learn to mix absolutely any colour. I found this task very time consuming but also rather calming. I can see that I need to give myself ample time to learn and practise mixing and painting.
