ANNA WEYANT – I like this website. It is simple and straightforward and very easy to navigate. I like the fact that it focuses on the images and doesn’t overwhelm you.

ANTHONY GORMLEY – What struck me was how simple this website is. For an artist who has created an enormous body of work, the site documents a vast number of pieces without feeling overwhelming or confusing and it is remarkably easy to find your way around and back again. I like the uniformity of the images and also that there is not a huge amount of words to scroll through but every written paragraph has a “read more” tab with allows you to get more information if you choose. I think this is a successful site for a long standing artist with a huge amount of work in a range of media. I like also the ‘making’ tab which shows the artist created and assembling his pieces.

My own portfolio

In my research, I was suprised to see that many very successful artists don’t have a website and some newer artists focus putting their work on Instagram rather than having a website. For me the initial purpose of a website was the equivalent of a digital school bag or school locker! A place where I could keep all my work in one place and for the practical reason of this is a requirement of my course.
Laying out the sequence of my portfolio. This has been an ever changing area. In the beginning there was almost nothing to populate my site with in terms of work but now, at the end of the course I have a lot of work. Much of it is coursework that I will not keep on the site once I have finished course as it has no relevance once it has been assessed. I have recently edited the site so it is simpler and cleaner visually and I have put a new image on my front page which I am pleased with. I have also changed the logo from the one that we randomly set on our very first WordPress lesson. I now have one of my own images.
Who is its intended audience? My initial audience was just college tutors and classmates but as the year has progressed and is drawing to a close, I see the future audience of my site will be potential educational establishments that I may apply to, friends that I want to show my work to and much further into the future I see my site as a way of showcasing myself as an artist and possible sales or commissions.
How does it compare with other portfolios? In terms of it’s design, my site is basic and I use a preformatted WordPress theme called Sketch so it’s certainly not a ground breaker in terms of design but sketch is a simple but effective layout which is also used by some working artists
How have I created a portfolio that has impact? · Now I have accumulated an amount of work, once I have finished the course, I can archive much of the learning bit like Skills etc and reorder my site so it contains only my best work. I intend to continue making and creating pieces so my portfolio will hopefully gather impact as my work gets better. I am happy with my recently updated front page of my site which I do believe has impact.
